Google Photos could get another useful way to share content (APK teardown)

Credit: Edgar Cervantes / Android Authority An app teardown has revealed that Google Photos could soon let you share albums and photos via a QR code. This would be an alternative to the current method of simply using sharing links. This would be useful if you want to share photos with someone but don’t have their contact information. Google Photos allows you to share photos, videos, and entire albums with a simple sharing link, giving recipients a quick and easy way to view your content. However, it looks like Google is working on another way to share your photos and videos.

Retroid Pocket Flip 2 and Classic ship next week, but will they beat the tariffs?

Retroid Pocket Flip 2 pre-orders will begin shipping on April 13, and Classic pre-orders begin shipping on April 16. The company has promised to have all pre-orders shipped by May 2. Duties will take effect on May 2, nearly doubling the effective price of each handheld. Retroid’s latest handhelds are nearly ready to ship, at least for anyone brave enough to pre-order. Retroid Pocket Flip 2 pre-orders will begin shipping on April 13, and Retroid Pocket Classic pre-orders start shipping a few days later on April 16. However, this ordinarily joyous occasion is overshadowed by a looming threat on the horizon: tariffs. Just a few hours ago, the Trump administration announced that it would triple the duties on products previously covered by the de minimis exemption. Without going into details, that means after May 2, consumers in the US will be charged duties of 90% of the value of each device before receiving the shipment.

Google Messages just can’t stop asking for emoji reactions to images, and it’s annoying

Credit: Edgar Cervantes / Android Authority A bug in the latest Google Messages beta automatically prompts emoji reactions in chats where the last received message is an image. The issue apparently appears only in the recent v20250406 beta version and not in older stable releases. You can avoid the problem by downgrading to a stable build or by sending or receiving a text message right after receiving an image. Google Messages is the primary vehicle for RCS messages on Android flagships, and millions of users rely on it. However, the app occasionally encounters bugs that break the messaging experience, sometimes in funny ways. The latest bug spotted in Google Messages keeps prompting users to emoji react to an image, and it’s funnily annoying. Several users on Reddit (like 1, 2, 3) have been complaining of emoji reactions popping up automatically on image messages, making it very easy to accidentally react to something even if you don’t mean to. This notably happens when the image is the last incoming message, which gets very annoying very quickly if you exit and re-enter such chats. The popup doesn’t break Google Messages completely, but it does add an extra step to texting as you have to defocus out of the emoji panel to send another text.
