OnePlus 13 becomes the first non-Pixel phone to get Android 16 beta

Credit: Aamir Siddiqui / Android Authority OnePlus has released Android 16 Beta 2 for the OnePlus 13, making it the first non-Pixel device to receive the new platform update. However, the build is only intended for developers and advanced users, with major bugs affecting performance. Carrier-locked models (Verizon/T-Mobile) aren’t supported, and you should proceed ahead only after a data backup. Google is following an accelerated timeline for Android 16 compared to previous years. Thus, it should come as no surprise that OEMs are now testing Android 16 on their devices. OnePlus has just announced the release of Android 16 Beta 2 for the OnePlus 13, marking it as the first device outside of the Google Pixels to receive the new update, right on the eve of Samsung’s rollout of stable Android 15 for the Galaxy S24 series in the US. Per the announcement on the OnePlus forums, this Android 16 Beta 2 build for the OnePlus 13 is intended for developers and advanced users only, allowing them to test their apps on the upcoming platform update. As such, you shouldn’t install this on your daily driver, as you risk bricking your phone. There’s also a long list of already known bugs, and several more may be unknown. For instance, the phone will crash and restart if you answer a call using a Bluetooth headset. There are also plenty of camera-related crashes, so you should definitely stay away.

Galaxy S26 Ultra could skip the under-display camera, and I couldn’t be happier

Credit: Lanh Nguyen / Android Authority A leaker has suggested that Samsung won’t adopt an under-display selfie camera in the Galaxy S26 series. They add that Samsung is struggling to improve the cost and ‘other aspects.’ This comes as the Galaxy maker is expected to adopt the tech in its Galaxy Z Fold 7 later this year. Samsung has offered an under-display selfie camera on its Galaxy Z Fold devices since 2021’s Galaxy Z Fold 3. This camera is nigh-on invisible to users but offers inferior image quality compared to conventional selfie cameras. We previously heard rumors that this camera could come to a future Galaxy S model, but a new leak suggests otherwise. Korean tipster Yeux1122 reports that Samsung was scheduled to bring an under-display selfie camera to the next Galaxy S model (presumably the S26 Ultra) but is struggling to improve the cost and “other aspects.” They add that the Galaxy maker is now expected to postpone the adoption of this tech.

This Android OEM could let you easily overclock or underclock your phone

Credit: Robert Triggs / Android Authority Strings found in MIUI firmware suggest Xiaomi is developing a ‘Chip performance dashboard’ feature. This dashboard would allow users to adjust CPU and GPU frequencies and voltages within safe parameters. Changes would require a reboot and will undergo system checks to ensure that the phone works well enough. Most Android flagships these days come with overkill processors, and frankly, most of us don’t need that much processing power for our everyday tasks. SoCs inside the phones can dynamically adjust their performance based on various parameters, but outside of gaming modes offered on some phones, there’s no way for a user to dictate just how much processing power is available to them. That could soon change, as an Android OEM is working on giving power users the ability to adjust CPU and GPU frequency and more on the fly! Leaker Kacper Skrzypek spotted strings within MIUI that suggest that Xiaomi is working on a CPU tuning feature.
